The surgery

That's right. I had surgery. My first operation EVER! On April 19th I had a tosillectomy and adenoidectomy.

See, when I was younger, I had strep and ear infections often (at least from what I remember, my mom says I was never really that sick). But I was just never sick enough for them to want to take them out. I remember hearing the doc say I'd have to have strep at least 7 times in a year for them to be removed. 7 times??!? That's crazy!

So now, as an adult, I've always had larger than normal tonsils. My guess is because of scar tissue from being sick as a child. I would also get these bouts of tonsilitis (think strep symptoms, but not actually strep, just infected tonsils.ick.) that were bad. No I mean BAD.

This last time I was really sick in February. I woke up with a sore throat one morning and just thought I must have been snoring extra hard or slept with my mouth open. Well, the sore throat didn't go away after a day. So I decided to open up and look. WOW. My tonsils were huge and swollen and covered in some yuck. Dang. Off to the doctor I went. It took a month, 2 rounds of Amoxicillin and a round a Azythromycin to get rid of the crud. My doctor referred me to an ENT because I wanted to get their opinion on getting those monsters out.

Dr. Mount, my ENT, suggested that yes, they should come out. He said I would sleep much better and feel much better. I think I impressed him with the size of my tonsils :D Fast-forward a couple months and there I was getting prepped for my first surgery ever. I was so scared!! Everyone was so nice though and I was in and out in a snap!

The medication I was given is Roxicet - a liquid oxycodone with acetaminophen. It's really a strong narcotic and I was REALLY messed up for the first few days. I had anticipated on getting lots of crafting done in the time I've been off work, but not so much. Now I'm on day 10 of recovery and I'm almost back to normal but there is still a lot of throat and ear pain when the meds start to wear off. But I have been able to get a little bit of crafting done, so that makes me happy. My sister and I are going to put together a fairy garden!

I just can't wait to finally be back to normal. I have soooo much to do around the house, the yard, and I have to start working out like crazy to get ready for the Warrior Dash in July.

Well, until next time..... and hopefully that's not months from now ;)

  1. hey, I just came across your DIY map project and I would REALLY like to recreate this but I had some questions. How were you able to print that map off the computer? Is that map various pages and how big is it? I don't know how you were able to print such a large sheet from the printer. Where did you find the map online also? Please get back to me if you can. I see that you are dealing with some more important stuff right now, but I'd REALLY like to make it. Good luck and feel better in recovery. I think the easiest way for me to get that answer is if you comment me back on my blog jociguillory.blogspot.com I will be able to see it faster that way. Thank you!
